5 signs your website is quietly costing you customers
A website rarely fails in a way you can see. Nobody emails to say the contact form was confusing. They just leave, and you never find out. That is what makes design problems expensive: from the inside, they are invisible.
These are the five we find most often when we audit a site.
1. Nobody can tell what you do in five seconds
Open your homepage and read only the first screen. If it does not say what you sell and who it is for, every visitor is doing that work for you, and most will not bother.
2. The next step is a guess
Every page needs one obvious action. Call, order, book, message. A page offering six equal choices is really offering none.
3. It was designed for a laptop
Most of your visitors are on a phone, usually on mobile data, often one handed. Small tap targets, text below a comfortable reading size, and forms that need pinching all cost you orders you never hear about.
4. Nothing proves you are real
Reviews, a real address, real photographs of real work. Trust is not a section of the page. It is the whole page.
5. It loads slowly on the connection your customers actually have
Speed is a design decision long before it is a technical one. Oversized images and heavy sliders are choices somebody made.
How to check yours this week
- Open your site on your own phone, on mobile data, and time the wait.
- Ask someone outside your business what you sell, after five seconds on the homepage.
- Place an order or send an enquiry yourself, start to finish.
- Count the choices on your busiest page, then reduce them to one.
None of this needs a rebuild. Most of it needs a decision.
